LIFE PARTNER CLASSES
Dr. Guess leads the Life Partner classes at University
Christian Church Though the classes are not required to
be married by him or to have a wedding at University
Christian Church, they are highly recommended, and as of
September 1, 2008 qualify couples for a discount on the
purchase of their marriage license. The classes are for any
couple (married or unmarried) wanting to evaluate their
relationship, anticipating marriage, or planning to be
married. The classes are held on two different Saturdays
four times during each calendar year.
The first Saturday each quarter looks at the Prepare-
Enrich inventory, which rates your relationship in twelve
different areas, rating each area as a strength or a growth
area. ( www.prepare-enrich.com) Then the class
considers "financial management", "family of origin", and
"intimacy and sexuality". We also use the Kiersey
Temperament Sorter to help couples get in touch with
their personality differences.
The second Saturday is a day of communication and
conflict resolution skill building. Using materials from
Couple Communication, Inc., we focus on skill building
and at the same time "resolve" some of our smaller issues.
The scheduled classes are as follows:
January 17 and 31, 2009
April 18 and 25, 2009
July 11 and 18, 2009
Saturday, October 24** (See below)
The cost of each Saturday class is $50 per couple, to pay
for scoring and to purchase the materials, and $125 per
couple for each workshop, a total of $175 per couple per
day. The $50 must be paid two weeks in advance.
To sign up for a class, send your check to Harold Guess
with names, contact phone numbers, e-mail addresses, and
wedding date. I will get back to you for further
information. Click on University Christian Church to get
their website, which has a registration sheet.
**The October 24, 2009 class will be a one-day class that
begins at 8: 30 a.m. and will end at 5:00 p.m. This is an
attempt to try to cover required areas for the TwoGether in
Texas program using the Prepare-Enrich Inventory by
omitting the Kiersey Temperament Sorter and limiting
the class to 8 hours of premarital counseling. The cost
for each couple will be the $50 scoring fee plus $200 for
the all day class.
Be sure to check out the "Contact me" section to get
things rolling for your wedding and marriage.
Dr. Harold Guess is the Austin Wedding Minister. He
is an ordained minister of the Christian Church
(Disciples of Christ) and a certified premarital counselor
of Prepare-Enrich and Couple Communication. Until his
retirement in 2004 Harold was senior minister of
University Christian Church in Austin, Texas, and is
now the Wedding Minister of that congregation. He
officiates at wedding all over the Austin area, and has
officiated at over 400 weddings over the last ten years.
He will make your special wedding day a delight and joy.
[Christian Churches were formed early on the American
frontier, at a time when denominationalism was very strong.
We believed then, and believe now, that we are Christians, but
not the only Christians. We believed then, and believe now,
that to be Christian all one needs to do is believe that Jesus is
the Christ. It could be said that our "movement" was the first
non-denomination church.]
To help you plan your wedding, Harold has compiled the
"Resources for Planning Your Wedding Ceremony." It is a
26 page document that includes 6 different wedding
ceremonies, an assortment of vows, special ceremonies, and
readings that he has used in weddings over the last ten years.
Harold likes for couples to determine what is said during your
special ceremony, and so the "Resources" are available when
you make a deposit to have him officiate at your wedding.
STRESS AT WEDDING?
Many weddings are hectic times with a
hundred things to do, and energy runs
low. It is a good thing to fortify your
body during this stressful period, and I
recommend Shaklee food supplements.
What I recommend specifically is one of
the Vitalizer packs and the Stress Relief
Complex. Please ask Dr. Guess about
how to obtain these food supplements.
